East Main Store Robbed Again

Amsterdam convenience store King's Fuel was robbed Sunday morning for the third time in a two-year period, and police are looking for the gunman and his getaway driver.

The store's surveillance footage shows a black male entered the store at 8:55 a.m. He wore dark pants and a white T-shirt, splayed with G-Unit across the front, under an unzipped blue hooded sweatshirt. The suspect wore the hood up, so his face is indistinguishable. He flashed a pistol at the clerk and demanded she empty the register. He reportedly made off with a small amount of cash.

Eyewitness accounts said the robber was assisted by a getaway driver, a white male with a distinguishing mark on his left cheek. Amsterdam Police Detective Lt. Tom DiMezza said it was either a birthmark, a mole, or a pockmark.

The pair reportedly sped away in a red two-door sedan, possibly a Dodge Stratus, that had dirty front wheels and a factory-installed spoiler on the trunk. Police immediately put out an alert for the suspect vehicle.

DiMezza said this robbery occurred at almost the same time last year around the same hour, but 12 hours apart. Last year's incident occurred around 9:20 p.m., he said.

The same store clerk, a female, has worked each time the store was robbed. Store Manager Iftikhar Butt said she is "very scared" and he is going to "give her some time" to decide whether or not she will continue working at the store. She quit after the last robbery, he said, but came back to work a couple of hours at a time.
